Dalintober Moon

As 2014 draws to a close, I can pause and take a breath or two. What a year it's been!

The publication of THE LAST WITNESS in July saw Jim Daley #2 rise to the top 20 of the UK eBook chart, as well as performing exceptionally well as a paperback, being reprinted within a month of publication, and reaching 'Bestseller' status across Blackwell's UK bookshops.

Surprised? You could have bowled me over with a decent dram! Since then, I have written the third novel DARK SUITS AND SAD SONGS, which will be published by Polygon in the UK in May 2015.

On the subject of publishers, I was delighted to report recently that I have been signed up by New York based Pegasus Books, who will publish my novels across the USA and Canada. Pegasus are home to New York Times Bestsellers, Pulitzer Prize winners and a host of highly acclaimed, award-winning American authors, as well as the likes of the late great Iain Banks, Camilla Lackberg, Jonathan Dimbleby, Lucy Worsley, Penny Junor and many great writers from this side of the Atlantic. Add to this greats like Dumas, Chekhov and Tolstoy; well, exciting stuff!

The way Daley et al have been received has been in no small part down to the setting of the books, Kinloch - or as even the dogs in the street know -  a fictitious Campbeltown.

So, before I bang on about what's happening in 2015, let me tell you about DALINTOBER MOON, a DCI Daley short story, to be published exclusively on Kindle, tomorrow.

It has been written to help raise funds for the Dalintober Beach Regeneration Project that will see the wee beach on Campbeltown Loch, so popular when I was a child, get back to its best.

I hope you will all get behind this, enjoy the story, but more importantly, help the charity.

Tomorrow, to celebrate its publication, I'll be announcing details of your chance to win a unique copy manuscript of DALINTOBER MOON, signed and dedicated to the winner.

See you then!

An Invitation and a Great Price!

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who have bought THE LAST WITNESS since publication last week ... fantastic!

In the next few days I'll be on the radio. Listeners in Oban and The Isles can hear me on the mid-morning show this Sunday with the lovely Brege. In the early part of next week, I'll feature on Your Radio, West Central Scotland's most listened to radio station.

I'm also looking forward to next Tuesday in Campbeltown. I'll be signing books at The Old Bookshelf in the morning, followed by a chat with the good folks at Campbeltown Library in the afternoon - I hope as many of you as possible will come and say hello!! The Press Launch Party will be held at night at Springbank Distillery.

In the meantime, here are a few early reviews of THE LAST WITNESS:

"Mysterious, thrilling, edge of the sunbed stuff." Lovereading.co.uk

The New Arrival!

As you can see, THE LAST WITNESS is in the shops!

Whether you like to order from the comfort of your own home via Amazon, or any other on line site; shop at Waterstones, Blackwell's, Foyles, WH Smith, Sainsbury's -  the list goes on -  you can now pick up a copy of this 'much anticipated' sequel to Whisky from Small Glasses.

The eBook version will be available on all platforms in the next couple of days, and can already be ordered on Kindle.

The above photo was sent to me by the good people of The Loch Fyne Gallery in Tarbert.
Rae was so excited about its arrival, she sent the image from her phone from the third tee of Tarbert golf Course! I hope it didn't ruin her swing.

I must thank a few people who have really helped me over the last few months. My agent Anne Williams at KHLA in London, who has done a magnificent job in helping me navigate through some heavy seas; to Hugh Andrew, Neville Moir, Alison Rae, Julie Ferguson, Anna, Sally, Vikki and all the rest of the team at Polygon, who saw the flare and sent out the lifeboat, a massive thank you. Not only did they effect the rescue with great élan, they re-launched a sturdier, sleek-lined vessel, so much better equipped than the battered old skiff that first crested the waves and sailed out into the broad ocean of words many months ago, as its crew bailed manfully, the captain lashed to the mast for fear he would do the pirates they came across on the way a terminal mischief.

And as for that crew - Fiona, Rachel and Sian - I salute you! We are a very democratic ship's company; that is to say, as I stare out at the clouds, or have my head in the stars, desperately trying to plot a course, the real work, and therefore all of the power, lies with them. It is a poor captain indeed, who doesn't realise that without his shipmates he would be left marooned on a dry desert island, no doubt sucking at a long-emptied bottle of rum, dreaming dreams of what might have been.
I love you.

And, dear reader, remember this; if you possibly can, never sail too near to a lee shore; look to windward and always do what Simon says.
The perils of the deep are many and varied. Be strong, rig the plank and don't be afraid to swing the cat o' nine tails.

Lastly, a few words from some of those who have read THE LAST WITNESS:

"I read Denzil Meyrick's first novel, Whisky from Small Glasses, and absolutely loved it - I must say though, this one is even better!"  RMK

"...the story is gripping and enthralling ...you just can't wait to read what will happen next ... I can't wait for the third instalment!" S McA

"What an explosive opening to a book - amazing! Absolutely recommended!" KS

To Campbeltown Once More

On Saturday, I took my family down the long and winding road to my home, Campbeltown. It's the first time I've been back in far too long, and I was so pleased to see The Wee Toon decked out in all its finery, looking brilliant! Fiona took Sian - who had never been there before - down the pier and down to the play park, whilst, with Rachel, I headed to the grand old lady, the Victoria Hall.

I had been invited to the MOK 10K  Expo there, basically the registration Event prior to the race on Sunday. With almost a thousand runners taking part, the organisers cleverly arranged for various local businesses to have the opportunity to show off their wares, creating a market, which was buzzing.

It was so good to see so many people I hadn't set eyes on in years.

Rachel was selling copies of her book I KNOW YOU, while, thanks to the good folk at Polygon, I unveiled my new novel, THE LAST WITNESS.

After enjoying WHISKY FROM SMALL GLASSES, folk were keen to get their hands on a special advance copy of THE LAST WITNESS, the next book in the DCI Daley series.

Already the feedback is excellent from those who've been reading it; I'm going to publish some of their thoughts on here later in the week.

After selling out in a couple of hours, now it's your chance to buy your own first edition copy of the book by pre ordering, click on the book's name, the link below:

THE LAST WITNESS

Be quick, they're going fast.

Finally, huge congratulations to all who completed the MOK 10 K course yesterday. Thousands of pounds raised for charity, and the heart of this special community, Campbeltown, beating strong and sure as ever!

A NEW DAWN OVER KINLOCH

I can't tell you how thrilled I am that highly esteemed publisher, Polygon, signed me up last year and will publish the next DCI Daley thrillers. The first of these, The Last Witness, will be published by them on 3 July 2014 on all platforms.

There is so much going on, including a raft of personal appearances, festivals etc., it is hard to keep up. To add to this, the exciting prospect that the book will be read in many languages, all over the world.

Over the next few weeks, leading up to publication day, I'll keep you posted With all that's going on.
Hope you like the cover. The blurb on the back will give you an idea what all the fuss is about.

As they would say in Kinloch; this is whoot's heppenin' !

P.S. You will note that I've gone the whole hog and dropped D.A. in favour of my full handle, Denzil Meyrick :)
