D.A. Meyrick studied politics before joining Strathclyde police, where he served in Glasgow. After being forced to leave ‘the job’ by ill health, he entered the world of business, performing roles as diverse as a distillery manager, marketing director of an engineering company, freelance journalism, owning and running his own leisure, PR and sales company, as well as being proprietor of a public house. After being laid low by illness, and, for a time virtually unable to walk, he decided to try and realise a lifetime’s ambition by writing a novel. Whisky From Small Glasses is the result. It is a taut crime/thriller, set in Kintyre. Drawing from the best of Scottish and Nordic noire, as well as influences from recent US and Scandinavian television drama; the novel is multi-layered, cinematic, compelling and visceral, shot through with a large measure of dark humour. It has proved a huge success since publication in November 2012, reaching the top 25 of the Kindle crime/mystery/thriller detective rankings, as well as high acclaim from the press, including the coveted ‘Book of the Week’ accolade in The Herald over Christmas and New Year. Denzil lives locally and we are delighted to showcase his début novel.
